Modern Richmond invites you to an evening of design and conversation!

Join us at Väsen Brewing Co. on Forest Hill for a behind-the-scenes look at one of Richmond’s most distinctive new spaces, and the team that brought it to life.

About the Space
Fultz and Singh set out to rethink what a neighborhood brewery can be. The result is an eclectic, community-driven interior built on three ideas: humility, movement, and shared making.

Throughout the space, the movement and geography of the surrounding area are translated into design. Spatial rhythms guide you through the room, topography is etched into surfaces, and material elements were built with help from the community itself.

The space also had to work well to meet Väsen’s need for expanded amenities and flexible programming, the team created partitioned event zones, a dual-bar layout, and layered social spaces designed for guests of every generation, from families to longtime regulars. Acoustic, structural, and layout challenges were solved with cost-conscious systems and operable glass walls that open the room to the outdoors.

Honest materials, local fabrication, and expressive lighting tie it all together, and a custom mural by local artist Eli McMullen gives the space even more character. The result is a resilient, adaptable brewery shaped by the people who use it.
