Help Modern Richmond celebrate another successful year of tours, education, and connecting our community. Our tour will include exclusive tastings from the Longoven kitchen and talks by those involved in its creation. Cash bar available.

Longoven is a 62-seat restaurant located in Scott’s Addition. Its creation is as much about the strength of relationships as it is about the structure, design, build and finishes.

At the time of securing the property, Longoven had been an idea for eight years. Plates of food mostly shaped its aesthetic, and its identity, shaped by the twenty years of combined hospitality experience of three partners. A New Year’s Day BBQ in the back yard of Chris Fultz and Alex Graf of Fultz & Singh Architects would foster a relationship that over the next four years would include several site visits and CAD drawings to determine seat counts and operating budgets.

Clean, authentic, minimal, beauty, timeless, discovery, wood, stone, brass, mid-century, accessibility and honesty were words that found their way into the process more so by experience than anything else.

The result is a space easy to take in, deceivingly larger than it is and connected by the repetition and simplicity of lines and materials. Timeless, refined rawness, and honest expression is the hallmark of Fultz & Singh Architect’s design, as well an audacious work ethic from Chris’s partner Amrit Singh, who would step into the project designer and manager as Chris and Alex moved to complete ZZQ.

From chef/co-owner Patrick Phelan’s direction, F&SA created a duality of space for Longoven. The rear room is dark, mysterious and calming, juxtaposed against an approachable, bright, and familiar front dining room. Weaving through both dining rooms is a controlled use of white oak and walnut that polarize the two dining environments.
